EXCERPT: CHAPTER 18.

“We kept taking our walk along the beach; apparently there were beach parties all along the shoreline. Normally, student groups, workgroups, tourists, and sports teams all come over. With their own sound system setup, and they just party. Food, drinks, and dancing are never in short supply. With scantily clad girls around, feast your eyes on your heart’s desire, if that’s your fancy.

So Mike and I went for our walk first, and Mike just got the better of himself at a third spot, which was packed to the brim. And everyone seemed to be in the groove and dancing to loud Afrobeat music. Before I realised it, Mike was dancing with some Nubian-like girl, and the girl was giving Mike some serious grinding to the groin area, twerking to be precise.

Mike seems to be enjoying this, and he beckoned me to come and join. There were enough of them dancing and holding their plastic cups with drinks not spilling; I just don’t know how they manage to do that.

I think it’s a learned skill. Mike was holding his bottle of beer, and I held on to mine too, but I was not ready to dance to anybody’s tune. I just thought to myself, what if Mike’s wife pounced on them? What would Mike say to the wife?

I thought to myself, maybe nothing. We’re all just having fun; isn’t that what goes on here? So, no issues abound, but will it be an issue if Mike sees his wife being grinded by another guy at this beach for the sake of just dancing? I don’t think so. What’s good for the goose is also good for the gander. For me, I am yet to get married to Abena and settle down with her. Mike has already done that for years, so I am not taking any chances with Abena. From our confessions to each other, we both won’t tolerate any hobnobbing with other folks around us.”
