The same cultural energy and allure of Cape Coast City with its mediaeval castles served as inspiration for my romantic novel, “Confessions of a Car Hire Driver 2.” Below is a preview and more from: https://eea-marketing.com/self-help-book
EXCERPT: CHAPTER 14.
“We all woke up late on Saturday. Breakfast was set up for us in the hotel restaurant. As couples travelling together, we made plans for the day. We will visit a few popular places and do some amateur photoshoots for our own galleries and social media platforms to let our friends and families know we also visited the world-famous castles in the Central Region of Ghana. We finished our breakfast and went to our rooms to get ready to hit the road to our touring sites. Our first point of call was the Cape Coast Castle, a prominent European-built castle located on the waterfront of Cape Coast City.
It was once a major slave trading centre. As one of eleven forts that make up the UNESCO World Heritage Site along Ghana’s coast, it offers a chilling glimpse into the brutal workings of slavery. Visitors can take guided tours through the dark and damp dungeons where slaves were kept for weeks on end while awaiting their fate. Basically, they get shipped like human cargo to slave buyers abroad to be used on their vast farmlands as slave workers. It is quite sobering indeed to visit this particular castle with its sinister history.
EXCERPT: CHAPTER 14 (Continue).
Gary was very quiet. Bimbo held his hand as if to say, it’s ok; some of your ancestors did this for a living. Thank God it’s no longer being done by official state actors these days, although unofficially it’s still being done by non-state actors, as in organised crime rings trading in sex slaves disguised as domestic house help for foreign clients. Not on the same grand scale as the original slave trade, though. We left and quickly looked for a spot nearby to take some hard liquor to console our disturbed souls from the Cape Coast Castle sightseeing experience.
We then drove to Kakum National Park, which is a protected natural area in the Assin Attandanso forest reserve area in the central region. It boasts unspoiled rainforest, a towering 40-metre-high canopy walkway, a birding trail, and a tree house. Visitors can immerse themselves in the thick environment of the park and witness its diverse wildlife up close. We went on the canopy walkway, and we, the men, have never felt being held so close and tighter than before; basically, the ladies were scared they might fall over into the deep, thick forest. So, they held on to us as we walked together on the canopy walkway.”
CONCLUSION
In closing, Cape Coast City has breathtakingly gorgeous mediaeval architecture that cries out to be explored. The lively marketplaces, spectacular beaches, and rich cultural heritage of Cape Coast offer an all-inclusive experience for tourists looking for romance, adventure, and exploration.
